Artwork Description

Pockets of green can be found all over the sunny Island of Singapore.
Over the years these green pockets have been well cared for and cultivated. As a result, the green spaces of Singapore continue to expand. This is not by chance but rather all a part of a vision called The Green Plan. The map of Singapore, highlighting the pockets of green, is shown in the bottom left of the artwork. The Green Plan is the document that lays out the blueprint of what Singapore’s green spaces will be developed into in the years to come. This future expansion is a continuation of what Lee Kuan Yew started. He had the foresight and vision to realise that green spaces were essential for the overall success of the nation. By cultivating nature, Singapore can truly thrive. 

Floating Islands speaks of a beautiful light-filled world, lush greenery, fluttering little sunbirds and brightly coloured tropical flowers are shown. Sparkling light sustains life, and clouds meander in a dreamy state. The little island pockets show flourishing trees that morph into green painterly drops of rain. 

Like the vision for The Garden City that aspires to new heights, the vertical nature of the artwork climbs upward. At the very top of the artwork, a HDB block peeps through the trees, a reminder that it is not only the plants that have grown but homes for the people have also been created. A tangible example of Singapore’s success story. A story that stands proud and tall like a grand old tree.

在阳光明媚的新加坡岛上，各处都能发现一片片绿意盎然的空间。多年来，这些绿色空间被细心照料与培育，使得新加坡的绿地不断扩大。这并非偶然，而是名为《绿色规划》（The Green Plan）的愿景所推动的成果。这是李光耀当年远见的延续。他意识到绿色空间对于国家的整体成功至关重要。通过培育大自然，新加坡才能真正繁荣。

《漂浮的岛屿》描绘了一个光影明亮的美丽世界：郁郁葱葱的绿意、小巧灵动的太阳鸟，以及色彩艳丽的热带花卉。闪烁的光芒滋养生命，云彩蜿蜒流动，营造出梦幻般的氛围。小岛般的绿地显示出繁茂的树木，渐渐化作雨滴般的绿色笔触。

如同“花园城市”愿景不断向更高处迈进，这件作品的构图也以垂直方式向上攀升。在画面的最顶端，一栋组屋在树丛间若隐若现，提醒着我们，茁壮成长的不仅是绿植，属于人民的家园也在不断被建立。这是新加坡成功故事的具体体现——一个如参天古树般巍然屹立、令人自豪的故事。
