Artwork Description
As a foreigner living in Asia, my trips back to South Africa are always filled with brief but meaningful encounters. Over shared cups of tea, I catch glimpses of the lives of my family and friends. And on the flight back to Singapore, I carry a mix of joy and quiet sadness—an awareness that our paths have only brushed past each other before returning to separate worlds. Though distance separates us, our hearts remain closely connected.
This artwork expresses that emotional in-between space. The photograph, taken through the window of a moving tour bus in Sweden, captures a forest that has been swept into motion blur. That fleeting image reflects the feeling of time passing too quickly—the desire to hold onto precious moments even as they slip into memory. The map layered into the piece evokes travel, not only across countries but across the shifting landscapes of life.
At its core, the work speaks to the beauty found within relationships—the tenderness, the longing, and the enduring love that we carry with us. It connects to the overarching theme of Between Realms, where I explore the beauty of creation as it appears in both nature and human connection.

在一杯杯茶香之间,我窥见亲友生命的光影;
