Artwork Description
Flowers serve no practical function at first glance—fragile, transient, seemingly unnecessary. Yet their purpose reaches far beyond the physical. They nourish something deep within us. We turn to flowers in moments of both celebration and grief, as if their beauty speaks directly to the human spirit.
They lift us into a quiet realm of serenity.
They step in when language falters.
When pain becomes overwhelming, beauty offers a momentary refuge.
When grief constricts the heart, flowers wrap us in a gentle, wordless embrace.
Their presence is fleeting—they bloom today and fade tomorrow—yet the ritual of gifting flowers persists across cultures and generations, outlasting any single lifetime.
In this artwork, I imagine a world without war or hatred, a world where unity flows naturally between cultures. The use of military camouflage fabric from the Singapore Army references the conflicts unfolding across the world today. By placing it in dialogue with botanical imagery, I explore the tension between destruction and beauty, conflict and compassion.
When Words Are Not Enough becomes a meditation on how beauty, tenderness, and shared humanity can offer solace in times when language—and the world—fails us.
