Artwork Description
Antidote is deeply personal to me—it represents how I use my artistic practice as a form of therapy, a way to bring healing and hope into a world often marked by pain and trauma. Through my work, I seek to create beauty as a counterbalance to darkness, focusing on the wonder of creation as a reminder of what is sacred and good.
In this piece, my imagination travels to a mountainscape. Throughout history, mountains have been seen as sacred places—spaces where heaven meets earth, where we can connect with the divine. Yet mountains are also untamed and demanding, requiring rest and reflection along the journey. The pagoda in the corner of Antidote offers this space of stillness and renewal—a place to pause, breathe, and stand in awe of the surrounding beauty.
Through the materials I’ve chosen, I aim to weave together both cultural and emotional healing. The mountains are formed from traditional textiles—Chinese silk stitched together with Japanese kimonos—symbolising unity, reconciliation, and the mending of past wounds. Interwoven military fabrics acknowledge the ever-present reality of conflict and pain, yet within this narrative, love prevails.
Antidote imagines a world beyond war and hate, where harmony replaces division. It reflects my belief that beauty and peace are not just aesthetic ideals, but spiritual ones. The mountains become a metaphor for a higher realm—a vision of restoration and hope.
Ultimately, Antidote is a reminder that the true remedy can be found within us: in how we choose to love, to care, and to bring light into the darkness. It is both a prayer and a promise—that even amidst chaos, beauty endures.
